I’ve been playing this new AoEIII lately. Let me tell you, it’s not bad.
I have to face it, AoEII was great many many years ago, EE is a goodie but now an oldy, EE2 sux and will never be good. AoEIII looks like my new hobby. The unit relationships are hard to understand at first, but soon it comes together and is great fun!
The storyline is very good. The age takes place at the time of America’s discovery and colonization. It’s the fight for the new world.
The colonies are:
British -swift boom strategy
Spanish -definately sword rush strategy
French -strong villagers for steady boom
Dutch -turtle strategy (my favorite)
Russian -boom and overwhelm strategy
Ottoman -strong infantry and siege
Portugese -strong infantry and anti-cavalry
German -strong/fast swordsman and tons of cavalry
Oct 17 there will be:
Aztec -all infantry units(sounds fun I hate cavalry but Dutch would own them)
Souix -quick rush cavalry(looks very promising)
Iroquois -inexpensive units(hit em after the rush and before boom readies)
I’ll get some pics on here soon. |

Spammers really are amazing creatures. You can learn all there is to know about their ways in a month. And yet, after a hundred years, they can still surprise you. |

What is the expansion called?
i haven’t played the game but I have watched A_E and SoP play.
I must say the graphics are great, and the "shipments" option looks good.
I still play AoE AOK, but I may try to play AoE III sometime.
I like the strategy games with unit specifics. (rock/paper/scissors)
and I really like the custom civs, but AoE doesn’t have custom civs. The shipment thing is almost the same thing, but you get your upgrades throughout the game. Plus you have to work for them by getting your rating up.
Expansion is called: War Chiefs (or AoEIII Gold Pack)
Apparently, one of the new native american civs do not have to make houses to control the pop cap. This would be a great civ bonus!
The civ I currently use is Dutch. They do not have to mine for coin, but make banks that produce coin very fast. Makes for a great turtle shell strategy. All cits can thrive in a small wall’d turtle shell and still out boom your opponent. That way you can raid your opponent without worrying about being raided yourself, and it holds off rushes with ease. |

BOOM:
To focus primarily on your economy. Mainly food and construction materials like wood. With this strategy you can create many times more villagers/citizens for a huge economic "boom". More buildings, farms, barracks, stables, foundries, and more control of the entire map. When it’s time to attack, you have the max capacity of military units with FULL experience and bonuses. That is, if you can last long enough to do it.
RUSH:
To make due with what economy you already have, and focus on attacking your opponent before he has time to counter it. With this strategy, you could have as little as 4 infantry with no bonuses or experience and be able to take out opponents with little resistance. You have to be EXTREMELY FAST in order to pull this one over on your opponent.
TURTLE:
This is really a boom strategy, but you focus more on defensive measures. This means you sit on your duff and wait for your opponent to attack first. You can easily hold off your opponents aggressive offense when you put many resources into defensive options. You just need to be able to wear down his resources and learn his strategy to be able to find his weakness and hit it hard. Just make sure you do it at the right time and play smart.
On EE I rush with 3 infantry by 15 seconds into the game. Then I continue to hit him hard with more and more infantry flowing into his base to hurt his economy bad. By about 8 minutes into the game I have about 100 infantry with full upgrades and bonuses. Plus a "wonder" which makes then automatically heal in combat. (Many ppl have pulled this off, but nobody can do it with a wonder aswell. They cost an enormous amount of resources)
Not to mention, these infantry have what is called "fanaticism". A special civ bonus that makes my infantry lose a small amount of hp for a +50% attack, but it only lasts for a few seconds. Works great with my wonder.
On AoEIII I turtle turtle turtle. |
