Yeah... With the new gp-handling system, and with the Unholy Sword of Ridiculousness ( ) lurking out there, I think Cobra overpriced things a little... |

Hey guys, it’s only Day 3!
You may be right though -- I am not sure how quickly people’s GP numbers will rise, so I decided to err on the safe side by pricing things rather high. I will be keeping an eye on the numbers over the next week or so, and based on what happens in that time I’ll probably be adjusting prices.
In the meantime, a good way to get (and give) GP is to quit posting nonsense here, and go discuss the games. |

I understand the reason for high prices today, but what will happen if the price drops the day after someone purchases something? There’s a logistical problem to solve there, in order to make sure people get upset. Maybe retroactive rebates? That way, people can’t complain one day about high prices and the next about your cutting of said prices
As for purchasing merchandise, I have something kinda radical to propose. Probably too radical to impliment, as it has a lot of problems associated with it. Still, it may be worth it in the long run to work through the problems. I won’t try to make that judgement call, that’s all on you Cobra.
The idea? Store credit for GP.
The idea isn’t too crazy to work; I mean Cobra is already giving out store credit for the 2 best threads in each strategy column monthly, so a precedent of sorts has been set. The problem with this system is that it is infinitely more abusable, though, because, say, two users can decide to give each other GP every 15 minutes for a solid week, and that would definitely be bad for the site. However, this idea does have some things working for it. It makes GP more valuable, which in turn will (ideally) improve the average quality of posts as people try to earn GP. It would also increase traffic to the site, as it may help recruit people from other forums that don’t offer these features, which would generally increase sales for Cobra. This is the same economic basis that makes Froogle a good idea for Google; that is, offer a free service (searching), to increase the success of a business (the ad money and seller’s fee Google collects from Froogle). This plan could be funded completely by a few small advertisements on the main site (not the forums, that’s bad policy), as the increased activity on the site would make advertising more worthwhile.
Again, I am in no position to say that this would be a good decision for the site, that is all up to Cobra. I’m sure he’s thought of something like this already, and since we haven’t heard of it he deemed it too complex or abusable or not with his overarching business plan. If he were to try something like this, though, I think something like 5 cents per GP wouldn’t be too risky, as right now the average amount of GP is about 10 in the first 3 days, with of course better posters hitting 20, 30, and even 50 GP. This would mean about an average weekly budget for this system would be about $1 per user, and with ads this is VERY worthwhile, as each click can usually net about $0.10 or more, so as long as every user who is redeeming GP is backed by 10 clicks or so per week (and hey, why wouldn’t we want to support Cobra by clicking to advertisers?), this system is self-sufficient.
With all that in mind, I want Cobra to know that I don’t want to pressure him or nothin’, but then again I doubt he’d be the kind to allow himself to be pressured by his community into doing anything he didn’t like |
