9 companions of the same race. Or 8 companions of the same race and Gandalf, Manager of Wizards.

Oh wait...did you mean of the real nine walkers?

Frodo, Reluctant Adventurer (or Frodo, Old Bilbo's Heir if you run Bounder)
Sam, Son of Hamfast
Merry, Friend To Sam
Pippin, Hobbit of Some Intelligence*
Aragorn, Ranger of the North
Boromir, Son of Denethor
Gandalf, Manager of Wizards
Legolas, Greenleaf
Gimli, Counter of Foes (I like Gimli, Feared Axeman, personally in my Dwarven deck).

But I only play Movie block.
