Yeah, to 1 second! This has the potential to create a GP racket, but I think its OK.

No. Definitely not. Posting outside images should be allowed with or without GP, IMHO.

Would have to be a very small amount.

This should be just given automatically, no GP.

Guess I'll note the things I'm not sure about, although FM offered many excellent suggestions as well:

- Downgrading or taking away an already existing feature (the current maximum avatar size, smileys, the ability to post outside images, etc). I'd rather have people excited about new features, rather than wishing things were left well enough alone.

- The pickpocket ability, or in general anything that would require buying a counter ability. Being forced to spend GP on something doesn't sound like much fun.

- Read-only access to the White Council. I think that defeats the purpose of restricting it in the first place. Otherwise create a second hidden council, or take it to PMs so we can speak frankly without creating a fuss? Not worth it IMO.

- Restricting the post size. It would just force people to double post, and regardless how do you explain to someone "You haven't earned the right to post that fantastic article you spent a week writing because you don't have enough GP"? I think if the limit was increased it should apply to everyone, as a courtesy.

- GP for longer posts. Quantity != quality, plus this could start arguments over whether GP deserved to be removed.

I like the ideas for custom titles, upgrades to existing items, loading pages without sigs... actually pretty much what Dain and NBarden have said.

Also some general forum settings could be implemented for everyone for the sake of user friendliness (e.g. the aforementioned option to not display sigs.) Other candidates for the shop could be features that would require an extra load on the forum. For example bigger avatars/sigs, raising the PM storage limit, increasing the total allotted size for attachments (if there's a current limit), etc.

Oh, whoops! That one is actually listed under Modify Profile -> Personal Message Options -> Notify by email every time you receive a personal message. Select "Never" from the drop-down menu, obviously.

Yeah, I know that, that's why I said we'd be actually "removing" benefits from the users, at least at first. However, most users don't even know about those, not to mention it's all in good fun to stimulate usage fo the gp system, otherwise, what good is working on a fun system if we don't get some mileage out of it?

Hmm, I think I like the idea of an Adult Lounge. To be frank, we've got a fair number of youngsters around the forum, and sometimes it's unwise to begin a discussion on a serious/edgy topic because they are either too sensitive or too naive to contribute safely. Of course there's that risk of a Lounge turning into some kind of porn-for-all, but that can be taken care of by establishing that the Lounge is to be used for "discussions of a more personal/serious nature."

Also, based on the kind of people we've got on the forums, I don't think smut would be a problem.
