TLHH House Rules

It's like "ATM Machine" or "PIN Number." Score for a redundant acronym!

So it's been almost two years since LotR was discontinued and despite all of the talk and promises that "we're working on it," nothing PC-related has come to pass. We're a large enough community of friends and players... why not simply decide to start playing by "TLHH House Rules"? New formats like Austrian are a good idea, as well as the discussion on playability/brokenness of certain cards. Couldn't we choose (vote, perhaps?) on a few people to start to oversee a "committee" of sorts, even if it's not official?

I completely agree!

In fact, I have been thinking about how this might work for a while. We could make a TLHH PC where we decide what positions should be available, open them up for people to apply for, then vote on them. Then we could actually get down to doing something. As long as people like you, Kralik, and DI are sanctioning it, it will be "official" for the TLHHers.

Seems like a good idea, a way to buld to up to an official PC. We are the largest collection of LOTR TCG players on the Internet (I believe)

If we do, I think we'd need a dedicated forum for it.

I've also been wondering if a TLHH CRD was feasible, which would contain rulings/clarifications accepted by the community. For example, fix that silly issue with unique/non-unique minions, decide how to handle Helpless on Sam, clarify the roaming limit (or lack thereof), etc.

Some issues that might come up:

- Deciding what gets placed in the CRD. I'd be happy to take "comprehensive" at its word and toss even improbable situations in there (e.g. whether you can "prevent" an illegal situation, like discarding cards for Why Shouldn't I Keep It?), but others may balk at this.

- Deciding what happens if an authority disagrees with a community-accepted ruling. The Crashing Cavalry thread is one example where the community went its own way regardless.

Shall we launch this? Perhaps give it its own Lothlorien forum and we can take polls to figure out what happens there?

I say we start with the current X-lists and then build from there with polls and such. We can have TLHH Open, TLHH Expanded, TLHH Standard, Austrian, etc.

We should start with addressing a few mechanics and, an idea of mine that I've always liked, the banned Combo list. :)

Right, Helpless on BoGN. Back when it was printed, it was impossible to play Helpless on Sam while he was the Ring-bearer (it requires spotting Frodo to play). An errata like "Plays on Sam, if Sam is not the Ring-bearer" could solve it. Similar issue with Held on Frodo. I think people simply ignore the corrupted bit, but a clarification like "...if Frodo is the Ring-bearer, Frodo is corrupted" would make it clear what to do.

Probably my favorite is the unique/non-unique ruling, though; I really doubt that loophole was intentional. Something like "When a unique card is in play and currently active, you cannot play another card that has the same title if either one of them is unique" would close it up.

Haha, I can talk all day about these things.

I'm all for the idea, but I think that instead of putting it in Lothlorien, we should create a new section entirely.

Kralik, would you be able to have a separate site-within-a-site for this, a la the SWCCG Players Commitee? Something like...I dunno...http://lotrtcgwiki.com/lotrtcgpc, perhaps?
Best regards,
Dáin

Site-within-a-site... not really. Two different forums, multiple logins, multiple setups, multiple ... headaches. :P

Well, okay. Doesn't have to have its own forums, but if it really get rolling, perhaps a repository of sorts for the updated CRDs, rulebooks, cards added...stuff like that. Not a necessity by any means, but if we want to attract others to it, it might be easier if it isn't just part of the forums. Know what I mean?

I think it would be best to decide who is doing what before setting up places to see the new format

I know, I know. Just wondering, is all.

I think setting up its own section in the forums would be good for now. And deciding who can do what, of course.

Alas, if I only had one more cup of coffee this morning, maybe I'd have remembered this topic already existed! And--err, that I already responded to it. :-[

Looking at the Namarie topic brings to mind a bunch of people crammed onto one island, with a shark (Olorin) circling about. :P I do think having a dedicated forum/section for this would be preferable. Maybe:

General Discussion
Rulings
Errata and Banned/Restricted Lists

Or possibly have the other categories as subforums to the general discussion.
