Rate This Free Peoples: Gimli/Aragorn
« on: August 15, 2009, 06:49:02 pm »
Gimli, Bearer of Grudges with The One Ring, The Binding Ring
Aragorn, Driven By Need

1 Sam, Son of Hamfast

1 Grimir, Dwarven Elder
1 Thrarin, Dwarven Smith

1 Ring of Fury
3 Gimli's Battle Axe, Trusted Weapon
3 Anduril, Flame of the West
2 Scroll of Isildur
2 Sapling of the White Tree

2 Hearts Raised
2 Citadel of Minas Tirith
2 Citadel of the Stars

3 Swordarm of the White Tower
3 Elendil's Valor*
3 Honed

It's awkward. It is unlikely. And it has two of the worst pictures for the respective companions. But I think there may be something to this deck, at least in theory.

For Gimli to fight, you add two threats. That makes Aragorn strength +2. The threats also pump Gimli when he has his axe. At the regroup phase, remove the threats with Aragorn's game text. A little healing with Citadel and plenty of pumps makes survival a little more likely.

Gimli is Resistance 11, when all is said and done, during each Skirmish phase with his axe, Scroll of Isildur, and two other artifacts.

And Thrarin, Dwarven Speedbump is there for fun.

What is swordarm of the northern tower? xD decide between white tower or northern kingdom...

First time I see a deck like this, and I find it very cool...

Btw, where are you from? cuz you and me are the only ones I see around online at this time. That's because I'm in Chile, but I don't know you...

The strength +4 for being defender +1 pump. Fixed.

I am from Washington DC. And I also check this site from my phone so I seem to be on all the time.

I just like trading.

think about adding slaked thirsts. it is pretty much amazing, and you already have preparations.

Yeah, I use Slaked Thirsts in my other deck...can't have this deck getting too big, though.

Here's a thought...what if you used Anduril, King's Blade so 'Gorn is defender +1 (as there are no threats when you assign minions).

I played a game with it on GCCG and lost...but want to try again. Anyone up for it?

I made a few alterations. Removed Preparations altogether, added some Citadel of the Stars. Changed Battled Tested to Honed. I think that's much better.

Grimir, Dwarven Emissary isn't legal in movie, I'd put in sam, son of hamfast to peel some burdens and another speed bump.

I did some changing to include Hearts Raised to dump some threats. Blood Runs Chill might be necessary for condition, etc., removal but I don't know where to fit it and I'd hate for someone to get killed because they exerted Gimli twice and couldn't heal him in time.

3 axes and 3 swords in a 30 cards deck? Don't you think 2 of each would be enough?

They are pretty necessary to survival when you only have two companions (or two companions that matter, anyways).

Pair it with a nice shadow with some discarding options (like small besiegers) and the extra firepower won't work against you.

Well, you could consider adding Hand Axe and Dwarven Bracers. What about Aragorn's bow? Maybe I will go?

With I Will Go, I might as well play another companion. I can't use Aragorn's Bow with Anduril, FotW. Plus, I need the exertions to remove threats otherwise Gimli is going to get corrupted very quickly.

Hand Axe would be a nice strength bonus, but I don't think it is worth the slot. Dwarven Bracers though, maybe. Or Gimli's Helm.
