Beginner's Deck...post them here!
« on: August 31, 2009, 06:03:38 pm »
Okay, here's the premise:
If I am trying to get people involved in this game, I probably want to play a game with them to pique their interest. So I need a deck or two that I can loan out that are competitive, interesting, and not particularly expensive to put together.

So, post ideas here. Even better if you have the cards to make them work and the deck is available for trade...always feel free to look at my list.

As you all know, I run a Dwarf/Moria and a Knight/Direct Wounding deck...so something different might be nice. My brother runs Elven Telepathy/Easterling Corruption, Gondor Wraiths/Nazgul Wraiths, and Rohan/Uruk-Hai...but don't feel like you have to veer from those.

I have already altered a Pippin starter deck with some of the extra stuff that I had since foiling my Knights deck, so that's a solid enough starter deck (though it could use a vamped up Southron side)...

Anyways, post away! The only stipulations are that:
1. All decks should have one copy (or more) of Sam, Son of Hamfast (unless the deck uses a different Sam)
2. All decks should have one copy (or more) of Ulaire Enquea, Lieutenant of Morgul (unless the deck uses a different Enquea)
3. The only extra rare Ring I have is The One Ring, Isildur's Bane, so keep that in mind too.

Any Deck without Archery, Threats, Initiative, Site Controlling, Enduring and Maneuver actions (Follower, Events...) should be fine for beginners.
Furthermore, those decks should not contain too much different cards.

I neglected to mention this would be a Movie Block deck...

...and actually, my idea was to incorporate threats or maneuver actions or whatever to show some of the complexity of the game.

I was thinking a Trust Me As You Once Did or Gandalf signet deck would be an easy one with pretty cool cards for a beginner.

I just don't want to be making a ton of decks that are wildly advanced!

If you have the resources...
Gandalf defender of the west
Frodo (resistence 12)
Sam great elf warrior
Aragorn driven by need
boromir defender of minas tirith
Legolas elven comrad
Gimli unbidden guest
pippin (set 7 common)
Merry (set 7 common)
These guys are all gandalf signent, work well together and none of them are rare.  Throw in a few copies of trust me as you once did, a few possessions and some events.  Someone has this deck posted... I think it is in a bag end thread called 9 walkers...

I suggest Isengard swarm / wounding as a shadow. Very cheap and easy to play.
