Might as well make it generic. ;)

NotASpamBot has been spamming a few topics (as in, posting stuff like "P"). I've left his post in "4500th Post" alone since it's on topic, but just a heads-up in case he gets crazy.

I noticed, and I'm 99% sure I know who the actual member is hiding behind that account, too. Not sure WHY they're doing it though, unless it's sheer boredom, so I took the direct approach and PMed them. :) We'll see what comes of it, but if it really IS who I think it is, I don't anticipate it being a real problem.

Always good to keep a lookout, though.
Best regards,
Dáin

...on the other hand, now I see that a guest from NaSB's IP is asking for multiple password reminders. THAT is a little disconcerting, depending on what accounts they're requesting those passwords from.

I've PMed the member that shares that IP address and asked if they're having any trouble. If not, we may--just MAY--have something to keep an eye on here. I'll keep ya'll posted.
Best regards,
Dáin

Okay, looks like we might have a genuine issue here. Here's the exchange between me and the member who shares and IP with NaSB and this password-requesting "guest"....

Quote from: me
Someone from your IP appears to be asking for multiple password reminders. You having a problem of some kind, my friend?

Quote from: Gizlivadi
oh, really? ??? I'm gonna check right now, I haven't asked for a password reminder, but thanks Dain ;)

Quote from: me
n that case, you should know that this new "NotASpamBot" ALSO shares your same IP address. I had assumed it was you having a little fun, but if not, let me know and I might have to investigate this further. I certainly don't want some potential trouble maker getting you in trouble!

Quote from: Gizlivadi
In fact, Dain, got an e-mail from TLHH to reset a new password.  Yeah, saw Notaspambot, but it is not me  Huh?. Anyway, I really don't know about spambots and address copying so I cannot really help on this... just hope it is not a major problem...  Anyway, thanks Dain, and if this guy makes more spam, can you delete the account or something?

Looks like we might have a USF-wannabe here, trying to get the passwords of valid members. I'll poke around and see if I can dig up more detail, but in the meantime I'd recommend keeping a lookout for this NotASpamBot character in the forums you moderate, boys, and take appropriate action if he/she starts spamming it up.
Best regards,
Dáin

I didn't have a chance to look into it last night, but I also noticed a guest from SoP's IP requesting a password reminder. Again, just something to keep in mind.

For the time being, at least, I've given the global mods the ability to see and track IP addresses for members (and guests, of course), so they can do a little snooping of their own if Kralik and I aren't around (or even if we are!) and they notice a particular "guest" that might be up to no good.

the guest asking for a password reminder was almost certainly BtO. he probably forgot his password as he hadn't logged in for a while. I am pretty sure USF isn't trying anything...I can ask him today though.

That makes sense. Like I said, I didn't have time to investigate.

bad news.
1. BtO said it wasn't him and
2.  USf said it wasn't him as he is banned and communicating with kralik or something...
3. It might be peterpot though...I will talk to him...

Hey Dain. I know who this guy is. it is an annoying friend, who I assume read my password from a little notebook I have when I invited him home. I asked him because he knows this forums and "notaspambot" is his username in msn, and youtube, I think. I talked to him and I hope he doesn't make more spam

And about the post, "centriolo" is a part of the animal cell. we had our Biology test today. ok, hope this is over

Two posts in and mister_moe is already lost in the Stupid Forest smacking his head on every branch. I vote to give him an avatar/sig that will reflect him nicely, but I may be overruled. ;)

lem0n reported his post in Archives...

Quote from: lem0nhead
This guy clearly doesnt understand forums. He uses the term noob (ironically), bumps a thread, disses the poster and makes a pointless insult, when it was a theoretical question quite within the right to ask in a questions forum! I aint got admin rights in the archives!

I say see what else pops up from this guy and then deal with it if needed. If he wants to make a fool of himself, that's one thing, but if he's insulting others and stepping on their toes...

I have left a note on that thread to m_m stating that if he wants to help he needs to keep it helpful and polite.

I shall monitor closely, especially as he trashed one of my deck threads!
