Rohan for Rick James
« on: September 28, 2009, 11:23:47 am »
Boromir, Bearer of Council with The One Ring, Answer To All Riddles
Eomer, Third Marshal of Riddermark
Eowyn, Dernhelm

Theoden, Tall and Proud
Rohirrim Army
Grimbold, Marshal of Rohan
Gamling, Warrior of Rohan
Aragorn, Ranger of the North
Merry, Swordthain
Sam, Son of Hamfast

Deor

Simbelmyne x3

Fortress Never Fallen x2
We Left None Alive
Arrow-Slits x2
Thundering Host x2

Blade of Gondor
Eomer's Spear
Herugrim
Eowyn's Sword, Dernhelm's Blade
Heavy Chain
Firefoot
Snowmane
Brego
Swift Steed x2
Long Spear x3

There's a simple 33 card deck. Sets up nicely with Simbelmyne and your companions get nice and tough. Fortress Never Fallen is a necessary uncommon condition. One issue with Rohan is that most of the best pumps are in the form of conditions, which is susceptible to cards like Orc Patrol, Saruman's Powers, etc., but this game is all about match-ups anyways.

I think you could remove Grimbold and use Hrertel instead unless your shadow badly needs your sites. There is a small lack of healing that could be solved by Leowyn. Corruption also could become a problem if you don't draw Sam early enough but I don't know what you could do against that.

Otherwise this deck looks pretty neat.

Those are some pretty good points. It it a pretty simple, common Rohan deck but it is common because it is pretty effective.

Pretty simple and nice [Rohan] deck. Since i use to run them i may have some sugestion for you...

first of all running more than 5 companions at same time in a [Rohan] without gandy Support is = death against any good crowd control. Every time minions like Enquea, LoM hits the table one of your guys dies (Usually Eomer and Eowyn go first...) So i suggest you keep them at 5... How you can make that you ask me?

You can change Theoden, LotS for Theoden, TaP, that way you can keep an extra companion at draw deck or discard pile if one of your companions dies (works very nice with Rohirrim Army to discard a big fierce minion that just killed theoden ;)). Sam usually hits the table, remove burden then die so dont worry about him (you probably wont keep him for many sites. Merry is Nice but he dies fast against swarm and his ability clog your hand depending on which shadow you pair it. if you remove companions you will have room for more pumps or possessions (if you reduce companions you add cards like rohirrim bow, etc...)

I see you have 10 companions at your fellow so i assume you pretend to run 9 and discard Merry...

Anyway it's up to you keep on 9 companions i just personally thionks its to dangerous with this kind of deck...

   A

I ran a similar deck for a while. I never actually ran 9 companions. Usually five are big enough and Merry can bounce to retrieve possessions.

I do like a Gandalf splash idea with Rohan and Terrible and Evil...but sometimes I think that holding onto TaE can clog your hand if you are trying to "wait for" shotgun Enquea.

Enquea is just one of the many options. I run cards like Greed, Southron Veterans, Gorgoroth Swarm and even War Towers to punish big fellows (just to give some examples). But again that's your options. Running the number of companions you like i just recommend change Theoden, LoS for Theoden, TaP and i prefer rider spear over long spear.
I would also consider adding cards like rohirrim helm, rohirrim bow and rohirrim shield (maybe just one or two each). Armory is another option to consider since you can play some discarded possession (like shield, helm or bow that you have discarded or another possession tour opponent had) on Gamling.

Those are definitely some nice cards. I suppose I would be concerned about this deck getting too big, but Rohirrim Helm, etc., are definitely really good cards.

If Rick ever logs back on, maybe he can throw in his two cents (though he has literally just played one game. Ever).
