Obama Peace Prize?!

I just looked at the news today, and apparently Barack Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.

I was like,  :o , :-? , :suspect:

He hasn't even been in office for 3/4 of a year yet, he hasn't made good on any of his campaign promises about getting the military out of the middle east, and he's the guy that's going to receive the peace medal. It seems like the prizes, for medicine and chemistry and thus and such, are awarded to truly hardworking, world-changing people, yet I can't see Obama deserving this at all. What you all think?  :-k

I'm imploring people I've never met to pressure a government with better things to do to punish a man who meant no harm for something nobody even saw, thats what I'm doing!

I started typing about 10 responses before deleting each of them. All of them said, "I am not going to get involved."

I just wanted to post that though. I only talk politics with people who pay me to do so (I am an International Politics major well-versed in issues in Central Africa, Indonesia, BRIC nations, the EU, and the US. You can throw some Latin America in there).

On record, Hitler, Mussolini, and Stalin were all nominated. That is in no way comparing Barack Obama to the three aforementioned...more a statement regarding the politics surrounding the Nobel Peace Prize.

what? Yasser did a ton for peace, he was a great man. but like every great man, had his faults. he just happened to have done alot against peace as well.

Even on CNN.com they have it written that he was given the award based on the aura of hope that has arisen in areas just by him winning the presidency.  While I do not disagree with that point... one would think that the prize would be based more on what he does once in office.  I would think that you could consider him a candidate after a few years of being president, depending of course on what he accomplishes, but not ahead of the fact.

So it seems a bit silly to me, but what do I know.

What's the point of an award like that when having it is based on politics?  That's like winning a game of LotR because you convinced the other person that you should.  I don't get it.
