Ruined Capitol
« on: October 19, 2009, 10:07:54 pm »
I was playing a game today online and I had six companions. Site seven was ruined capitol.

Thus, if the Shadow player spotted the site (with a minion), I could not double move to site nine, correct? That is what I was trying to convince my opponent but he assured me I could double move (I know I couldn't).

But I am posting for confirmation.

What site were you on when he spotted the minion? The sites text is only active if you are on the site.

I was at site seven. Shadow phase, he played his stuff.

Thus, I can't move. I just need to confirm that the "end of the turn" means the end of the last possible regroup phase.

You could double move if you had increased the move limit beyond the normal amount with Radagast, The Brown or News from the Mark.

But without these your move limit would be -1 and therefore be just 1

Hmmm, I'm trying to figure this out. As TheJord said, you couldn't "double move" from 7 to 9 anyway unless you were tripling from 6 to 9.

In any case, any move limit changes are in effect until the end of the turn even if the card that caused the change is discarded. Just a side note that is counter intuitive (suicide Radagast works!)

Sorry. I used no move limit modifiers. So the site was the only modifier: -1 to a minimum of 1.

I take it you meant double to eight, then, not nine?

It's important to note that the site is a Shadow action, not a passive effect.  If your opponent doesn't announce that he's taking the action and tells you he's done with his Shadow phase, then he can't reduce the move limit.

Additionally, there's nothing stopping the Shadow player from reducing the move limit multiple times.  Even if you'd made the move limit +10, the Shadow Player could make it -500, because the site doesn't put a restriction on how low you can drop the Move Limit (this is because, of course, in order for the Shadow player to have used the site, the FP player must have already moved once, so they're still guaranteed to get at least one move out of their turn).

True and good points Alazzar. And no, the point was to double to nine (but doubling to eight works too).

Well, I think what people are saying is that you couldn't have doubled to 9 and had to even worry about Ruined Capitol.  Ruined Capitol is site 7 and must be used during the Shadow phase, meaning it could only be used when you moved from site 6 to site 7.

Which would be a triple to nine, not a double. ;)

Why can't it be used when starting at site 7?  If the shadow player plays a minion at site 7, the optional action of the site can then be used.  It doesn't say at the start of the shadow phase.

The shadow phase begins after the fellowship move, so they would begin their turn at site 6, then move to site 7 for the shadow phase

It can be. Who said otherwise? I think everyone is missing the original reason I posted this. No matter how many times I try to advance the move limit, the Shadow Player can reduce the move limit.

Absolutely. This is a shadow phase action, so as long as you meet the requirements and costs for the action (in this case, a minion and 6 companions), you can play as many times as possible. Obviously the move limit cannot be reduced below 1, and any increases made after the shadow phase would allow you to keep moving
