Allies Question

Kind of an odd question, but are allies considered "unbound?" Or is there nothing for allies.
The reason I ask would be for a card like
Escape
on
the Gaffer, Sam's Father
or something like that.

Allies are neither unbound nor Ring-bound.

From the CRD:
unbound
Only companions can be unbound (not allies or minions). Any companion without the Ring-bound keyword is an unbound companion.
