Batman Dream Casting
« on: January 04, 2010, 09:54:10 am »
There have been a lot of thoughts in my The Dark Knight post (Rated R language warning). One of the points that has come up has been poor casting.

Were you making a Batman movie, who would you cast for major roles? Consider it a series of movies so you can cast several villains, etc. Here would be some characters I would consider "main."

Heroes:
Batman
#$&*@! Grayson (Nightwing, Robin)
Jason Todd (Robin--would you really use him?)
Tim Drake (Robin)
Stephanie Brown (Robin)
Damian Wayne (Bruce's son, Robin)
Alfred Pennyworth
Commissioner James Gordon
Selina Kyle (Catwoman)
Talia Al G'hul
Batman Love Interest X
Thomas and Martha Wayne (Bruce's murdered parents)

Villains:
The Joker
Two-Face
Poison Ivy
The Scarecrow
The Penguin
Mr. Zsasz
The Mad Hatter
Killer Croc
The Riddler

Obviously there are more...these were just examples of characters that could appear in a Batman movie. Feel free to include more characters, like Tommy Eliot (cool!) and others...

This conversation actually started with my brother and Marvel characters, so I am going to start a Marvel post on these boards as well.

I thought Sam Worthington was the real tough guy in Terminator, he could be my Batman.
Mark Wahlberg could be the sidekick Robin. Not the toughest, but ok. And since he has been a underwear model, the job would be perfect, he can wear it over his tights!

Hmm...don't you think Markie Mark is a little old for Robin? He is the "Boy Wonder," not the middle-age washed-up wonder. And don't get me wrong...I like Wahlberg a lot...

...I was kind of hoping for the concept of casting today, not Wahlberg circa 1990.

For Batman, I have no real problem with Bale; however, Bruce Wayne is supposed to be affected and tortured at the same time. Bale doesn't fit that role. Bruce needs to be graceful amongst the higher-ups in Gotham but still able to kick teeth in.

As for casting I did like, I thought Cilian Murphy was a great Scarecrow.

There would never be any reason to include her in a Batman movie unless Heath Ledger was brought back to life (or someone was cocky enough to think they could do it and not be overshadowed by Ledger's performance), but Amanda Seyfried would be a fantastic Harley Quinn. She has large eyes to go under the makeup and has a bit of sass in her tone.

Her hair translates wonderfully to bunches (pigtails, depending on where you are from).

Edit: Of course, Quinn could appear as Poison Ivy's semi-love interest...

Catwoman is slinky, conniving, and beautiful. She's the only person Bruce Wayne loves, yet can't have. Now that she is no longer the White Queen in my Marvel universe, let me introduce Charlize Theron.
