Marvel Dream Casting
« on: January 04, 2010, 09:56:12 am »
If you were producing a Marvel movie, who would you want as your stars? You can stick with one group or make an All-Star film. Your call.

Common Hero Teams:
Fantastic Four
X-Men
Spider-Man and Friends

Common Villains:
Dr. Doom
Magneto
The Brotherhood of Mutants
Boliver Trask and Sentinel Units
The Sinister Syndicate
Kingpen and the Crime Lords

Pick a few groups and dream cast!

I like Marvel a lot...this is the one I would want to focus on. So I am going to take a few swipes at this and the different teams in different posts. Rationales will be included, free of charge.

X-Men:

Wolverine:
First of all, Wolverine is probably my least favorite X-Men (except for in really early comics). I think the Weapon X Story is boring and overdrawn and has too much hype around it. That said, he is the most popular member of the X-Men. So I will start with my Wolverine Casting...

Hugh Jackman.

Boring, I know. But the guy has basically made Wolverine his own. The problem with Hugh Jackman is that now I have to have a Cyclops that can steal the screen as well. When Hugh is on screen, fans are always wondering what he is doing leaving James Marsden to rot...so I will need to cast a strong Cyclops character.

Cyclops:

Currently debating between a few. Like I said, he needs to be a strong, screen-stealer. Also, I like the X-Men when they are young mutants (Wolverine, Professor X, are a few exceptions). So I need someone relatively young and those are actors I do not know so well. However, as of right now, I give the nod to:

Chris Pine.

We saw him as Captain Kirk and he stole the show. I think he can do the same here. Funny, because I have Zachary Quinto as another Marvel role to come.

Jean Grey:
Nothing against Famke Janssen, but she is not Jean Grey. The problem with Grey is that we need a beautiful ginger actress who can be a central love interest. Married (or engaged, in my earlier adaptation of X-Men) to Cyclops but feels some connection to Wolverine.

Another problem is we need to find someone who can feel jealous to Emma Frost. Frost, another telepath, "mind-*****" (This was edited; In short, Frost went into Cyclops' mind and had a sexual fantasy dream with him). Cyclops on several occasions to make Grey jealous. So that means we need two leading ladies to compete for screen time. I don't have an answer as of right now.

Emma Frost:
This one was much easier for me. Frost is old, ancient, but vain enough to use her powers to make everyone around her believe she is young and beautiful. In short, we need a power-role competitor, not someone who fades in and out of the spotlight. This one was rather easy for me:

Charlize Theron.

Theron is beautiful and cunning. She's perfect for the role. She may not fill out a top like Emma, but that's okay. I want real-world heroes and villains, not comic-y top-heavy ones.

Later conversation came up with a fantastic second choice: Ali Larter

Kitty Pryde, Shadowcat:
Kitty Pryde is a really tough one. She's supposed to be the youngest X-Man of Jewish descent. She's a buddy to Wolverine and romantically involved with Colossus. I think we have the  perfect candidate here:

Michelle Trachtenberg.

Angel:
Warren Worthington III largely funds the X-Men on inheritance money. Also, he has wings. He's a pretty-boy blonde.

Jesse Spencer.

More coming. I have to do real world stuff now.

It's a shame Ian McKellen is so old, he was a great Magneto.

He was a grande Magneto. And I was a fan of Patrick Stewart as Professor Xavier, for what that is worth. I'll get through the X-Men and Brotherhood eventually...but I was hoping other people would respond their ideas!

Magneto is the best comic book character! His powers are the best!

Who would play Colossus, Xavier, Beast, Iceman, Pyro, and, most importantly, Nightcrawler?

Working list, friend...adding Angel shortly...

I am quite disappointed that I am the only person running with this. Does anyone who knows Hollywood (or film stars) better than me want to help and throw in their two cents?

It has taken a while and I still can't come up with a good Jean Grey.

Here is the problem with Jean Grey/Emma Frost. Emma Frost needs to be more sexually attractive, but Jean Grey needs to be the girl you want to end up with. Emma Frost was easy because there are several actresses who have that swanky aura. Frankly, there aren't very many ginger actresses who are pretty enough to be Jean Grey. Keep in mind she needs to be able to compete with Emma on the screen the same way that Wolverine and Cyclops do.

I am going to post ideas for Jean Grey as they come:

Diora Baird
Rachel Nichols

Other ideas greatly appreciated.

Famke Janssen is beautiful....and she is Dutch. So back off!!! Haha. Well, I don't know hollywood that well, and I don't know the Marvel comics that well. We have Asterix and Obelix, Suske en Wiske and Lucky Luke. That is about it, hahaha.

I like Janssen, but she is too old for the role I am casting (and not a great actress anyways).

Do you know what you get if you have someone who looks good but can't act?
 Jessica Alba as Invisible Woman.

That is what I'm trying to avoid.

For Bishop: Akinnuoye-Agbaje. He played Ecko in Lost, and did a great job. They are similar characters in many regards, and I think he would do a stellar job.

Hmm...can't picture him bald, which is kind of the Bishop I am going for. But :gp: for being the first person to recommend someone!

I kind of like Antonio Pierce for Bishop, but he is a football (American) player, not an actor. He is the emotional leader of the New York Giants defense (see how much they sucked when he went on the Injured Reserve?!) so I've seen the kind of intensity he has.

Question is, can he act? Probably not, so I'll find a new Bishop later.
