About the ENHANCED OPEN format
« on: May 27, 2010, 07:28:05 pm »
Greetings!

Welcome to ENHANCED OPEN format!  This is the format that my playing group plays, so I wanted to share it with the rest of the LOTR TCG community.  I hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

You could play OPEN, but broken cards and combos that have been discovered and abused cause this format to not be very balanced or fair.

You could play EXPANDED or some other formats, but they require you to give up using certain cards (X-lists, etc.) in order to allow for a more balanced and fair game.

The purpose of ENHANCED OPEN format is to allow you to use all cards from all sets (yes, every card!), while preserving a more balanced and fair game.

**************************************************************************************
Here's the description:

1.)  All cards from all sets are allowed.

2.)  If a card is in the "ENHANCED OPEN Virtual Set", that version of the card must be used instead of the originally printed version. (This avoids requiring an X-list).

3.)  An adventure deck is made up of 9 total sites from sets 11-18 and one block (i.e. sets 1-3, 4-6, or 7-10). You may not have multiple sites with the same site name, nor multiple sites of the same site number, nor more than 3 sites from sets 11-18 with the same shadow number.  When playing a site on the adventure path, if you have a site from sets 1-10 with the matching site number in your adventure deck, you must play that site; otherwise you may play any site from sets 11-18 in your adventure deck.  If your site from sets 1-10 is on the adventure path, you may not replace it with another site from your adventure deck. For sites from sets 1-10, since the "region cost" is included within the "shadow number", the "shadow number" cannot become less than 3 for region 2 sites nor less than 6 for region 3 sites.

Here's an example of building an adventure deck:

Site 2 and 5 from Towers block
7 sites from sets 11-18 (Same rules as Shadows site path)

4.)  The loaded meaning of Hunter X is "Character is strength +X while skirmishing a wounded character."

That's it!

For my playing group, I made "card inserts" of this Virtual Set to make playing the ENHANCED OPEN format more convenient.  However, I am not allowed to post a link to it in these forums.  If you are interested, just contact me.

If anyone has questions, please let me know and I'll be happy to help you!

Thanks!

Now let's get some decks posted!

You could play OPEN, but broken cards and combos that have been discovered and abused cause this format to not be very balanced or fair to form a unique, balanced, ultra-high power format.

That's why I play open. If you want "enhanced" open, just play expanded.

But he wants to use all of his cards...

Anyway, Expanded is also broken. broken, broken, broken, broken, broken... even if not as broken as Open is.

If you want to use all the cards, play open. If you want a lower-powered format, play expanded. Don't create new cards.

Or if you want an "enhanced" open format, go with combo-banning.

You are entitled to your own opinion.

I just want to share with fellow players my favorite way to play the game.  Besides, I wouldn't bother taking the time to post all this information about it on these forums if I didn't think other players could benefit (i.e. have more fun).

I encourage people to try it out.  Who knows?  You may find it fun too! :-)

Well, the thing is that it only causes problems when cards do different things in different formats. If there's no consistency across the board, the chance of getting any new players is nil.
