Moving Offshore
« on: February 04, 2011, 07:08:19 am »
I'm looking into moving both the hosting and domains for this site "offshore" -- that is, out of the US and US jurisdiction. This will give more leeway with copyright concerns, as the new locations couldn't care less about the DMCA and such. It's also to protect my own privacy, because a single lawyer's letter will force most US registrars/hosts to disclose the full contact information of the domain name owner. Not to say that I'm going to go willy-nilly, but some time in the near future (that is, the next few months) I may be relaxing the dream card policy and allowing people to post links to dream cards. Each poster would be legally responsible for their own posts and image hosting.

Sweet! I've always wanted to see some dream cards...

(after all, it's a CHARITY organization, I still have SOME principles, even having gone through Law School... :P),

Bit of a scrawny Iowan kid with an unhealthy artifact obsession. Oh, and a God of Spam. In a good way.

Not to mention, it's a very important step in "forcing" a GCCG PC like we have been talking about lately.

The main stuff is done, now just to tie up some loose ends elsewhere (getting all my ducks in a row) before I change the official DC/VC policy.

Supporting links to graphical dream cards still seems to be asking for trouble, especially considering that the links / card lists people post might not even be intended for the TLHH group. I'd go for the more cautious approach of changing the game text of existing cards, possibly loaded in full Decipher graphics on GCCG.

Basically, I see a lot of risk, and the reward IMO won't make or break this project.

I am going to make sure that each person takes responsibility for their own posting. However, simply linking to another site does not break any laws.
