Realisitc choke
« on: March 04, 2011, 07:30:38 am »
I'm thinking about building a choke deck and need advice on it.  When your posting please consider that I'm having a difficult time getting rares.

Frodo, Reluctant Adventurer*
Smeagol, Poor Creature*
Aragorn, Heir of Elendil*

4x There's Another Way
4x Poor Wretch
2x The Tale of the Great Ring

2x Bill the Pony
2x Ranger's Sword
2x Aragorn's Bow
2x Hobbit Sword

3x Nasty
3x Swordarm of the White Tower
4x Still Far Ahead
2x Don't Follow the Lights

Hard Choice is an ineffective call as it only heals Frodo. Where are the Smeagol cards that make sites cheaper?

Sting, Baggins Heirloom, the Mount Doom Phial of Galadriel, Frodo's Cloak, Mithril Coat, Brace of Coneys...these things would help.

Frodo/Sam/Smeagol would probably be a better call than Gorn. Splash Greenleaf to start.

Smeagol cards that make sites cheaper?  Which ones?  Again most of the cards you stated are rares.  As is I'm having trouble accessing rares at the moment.  The Sting, Phial of Galadriel, Mithril Coat aren't available to me neither are most rares.  I have Frodo's cloak and it's really not very good.  What advantage does a Sam/Frodo/Smeagol give me?  Brace of Coneys doesn't do to much except remove one burden which I don't normally have to worry about anyways.

I don't understand. You would run two copies of a card that can only heal Frodo (Hard Choice) but you don't think a possession that costs 1 that heals Frodo and removes a burden is good in a deck with no burden removal? Braces of Coneys would cost nothing and you can stack them all on Frodo...I don't see how that isn't a good thing.

Frodo/Sam/Smeagol allows for better options for pumps as opposed to a "bad draw" where you only get Gondor or Shire cards.

I'm not really going to need all that much burden removal.  Maybe against other people but only one person I play against plays any sort of corruption and he doesn't use that deck very often.  Also I don't need to add any burdens to move first as I'm not going to try and take this fellowship to site nine.  It's just supposed to be able to clutter my opponents hand and keep them from setting up their free side.  I know it still needs a lot of work.  I tried searching for cards that drop the shadow number of sites but couldn't find any.

Still Far Ahead.

I can understand wanting to build your decks specific to the experience of your meta (or inexperience of your meta), but you won't get to be a better deck builder until you start considering opponents beyond the guys you play with.

While I don't think this deck will be successful at all (feel like I've said that before), I appreciate that you are trying. I would suggest picking a format to play--it sounds like Movie would be more appropriate for you than Standard--and take a look around the boards for other decks with similar ideas as the ones you are having for ideas.

The deal is I can't play GCCG so I only am able to play with the few guys in my area.  The reason I was wanting Aragorn in there is he's def+1 so he helps prevent swarms and his bow also helps keep down swarms and the only Sam that's def+1 is Proper Poet and even then he only has 3ish strength.  I'll grant that If I had access to rares this deck could be a lot better.  This deck was meant to fit into Poorman's but it wouldn't thanks to the fact that I have Aragorn's Bow.  Thanks for the event suggestion though helped out.
