The Dead Pile
« on: September 05, 2008, 06:18:05 pm »
I was thinking of making the Dead Pile a read-only forum for members. That way, if something is moderated or deleted, the member(S) involved can at least see the reason why. I would post a sticky Warning (read at your own risk, etc) at the top of the forum. Usually its just harmless spam anyways. Comments?

I think it makes leaving shadow topics behind unnecessary, which for me is great, after all, it's something I don't like to do anyway, since I think it tends to spam up the boards.

Making it readable would make shadow topics unnecessary? Just checking to see if I understand you. :-k

Naw, b/c then they'll be seeing the unfair privileges that we mods get in spamming up the place.

Eh, I don't see the harm in it. Go for it.

Well...I just kinda don't like it. There's no point in being able to read it if you can't post in it.

I don't really see much problem either, other than the potential for jump-starting/reigniting some sorta flame war waaaaayyyy down the line.
Of course, that's assuming that we (and when I say 'we' I mean Kralik and Dain) lose control of the local population at some point, at which point we're (and when I say 'we' I mean all of us) are in trouble anyway.

So short of some sorta worst-case scenario, I figure there's no harm, if you think it will be useful. On the other hand, I don't really see that much point in it, either. Maybe some, but not a lot. Whatever you wanta do gets my vote; I don't really care one way or the other.
Forget it. I'm not arguing with the computer anymore to try to get the sig I want....

I doubt anyone will read it, but there's no reason why someone shouldn't be able to. Not that I think it hugely matters either way.

Not entirely, but if forumers can read The Barrow-Downs, if a chunk of conversation suddenly disappears from a topic they can see it went there, and reference it if they need to, instead of we having to leave behind shadow topics every time we move a large chunk of a topic there. Basically this is what I meant. So yeah, go for it.

OK, it should be open as read-only to members now.
